Stargate: Destiny


Stargate Destiny is a ship-based virtual series, in which a lone human ship, travels to a far off galaxy to look for the last remaining ancients. Led by General Barrows, the team comes across a dangerous new enemy, new allies and brand new adventudcres.

The first ideas for what could be recognized as Stargate: Destiny began to be conceived in late October of 2004, by the show’s current executive producer, Geoff Hill. The show, at the time, was merely an idea, as well as notes and drawings on spare notebook paper. As time went by, the idea began to evolve in just about every aspect, including title, characters, plot and setting, and by early 2005, the first public announcement about a show that had been recently named Stargate: Destiny was made, at the Beyond the Horizon Forum which, at the time, was the main forum for the virtual series Stargate: Horizon.

For some time, the show had gone on only under the eye of Geoff Hill, who wasn’t quite sure where he wanted this idea to go. It was in the middle of spring, 2005, that he was approached by Aaron Percival, also known as Elite Anubis Guard, regarding his idea for the show. At the time, Aaron was a writer for Stargate: Legacy - a project that had planned to use computer animation in their episodes. Aaron liked the idea of Geoff’s ship based series and offered to help out by going over and critiquing Geoff’s material. As SG: Legacy began to decline, Aaron offered to help out, as a full time crew member. Soon enough, Aaron began giving ideas of his own, and eventually the two started putting together episode plots, however basic they may have been.

Up until about April of 2005, Geoff was never really too serious about actually wanting to write real scripts for Stargate: Destiny. For quite some time, he was quite satisfied with carrying on the adventures of the Destiny and her crew in my head. Geoff often says that Stargate: Horizon inspired him to continue with Stargate: Destiny, but he really doesn’t think that he had got it quite through his head yet what it would mean to actually write and ‘virtually’ produce a show.

As Geoff began to become more serious about this, he began to draw up plans for a premiere episode of some kind. The first attempts were not good. Geoff says, “I really had no idea where I was going with this, so I focused on ideas that Aaron and I passed around in sessions we used to know as idea tennis”. By June of 2005, and with the addition of a third crewmember, Adrian Curtis, the ideas for a pilot episode were beginning to really formulate, and it was in the summer of 2005 that Geoff got down to work on it. Writing this two part, 150 page episode took some doing, but it was eventually completed, and boy, was there editing to do.

So, with several episodes now finished, and more on the way, the premiere date approaches, and all at the Destiny team await it with great anticipation. The team has now grown to six production members. In only just over a year, an idea that began on paper in the back of a notebook has grown to a series being produced by people from all around the world. Only a year ago, Geoff would’ve never seen this kind of progress, and certainly didn’t imagine that he and his team would be where they are today.
